Churros are easier to make than you might think and use inexpensive ingredients you likely have at home. Their sugar coating and chocolate sauce make a beautiful (and delicious) presentation for a special breakfast, brunch or dessert.
Homemade churros with chocolate sauce recipeIngredients:Churro dough
1 cup water1 tablespoon sugar1 tablespoon vegetable oil1/2 teaspoon salt1 cup flourVegetable oil for fryingSugar mix
1/2 cup sugar1 teaspoon ground cinnamon1/8 teaspoon saltChocolate dipping sauce
4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped1/2 cup heavy cream1/2 teaspoon cinnamonDirections: 1Prepare the doughIn a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, vegetable oil and salt and bring to a boil. Quickly remove from heat and stir in flour until it forms into a ball. Allow dough to cool for a few minutes and spoon into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
2Pipe the doughHeat a large saucepan filled with 2 inches of vegetable oil to 365 degrees F. Use a candy/deep-fry thermometer to monitor the temperature. Pipe dough into heated oil in 4-inch strips cut with a knife.
3Fry the doughFry a few strips at a time until golden brown, approximately 2 minutes on each side. Never leave hot oil unattended. Using a slotted spoon or tongs, transfer to paper towels to drain.
4Roll in sugarTo prepare sugar mix, combine sugar, cinnamon and salt and pour onto a small plate. Roll warm churros in sugar mix on all sides.
5Prepare chocolate sauceMelt chocolate in a double boiler. Stir in cinnamon and cream until smooth. Serve warm.
